Jim Howe is a second-generation professional drag racer based in Crossville, Tennessee. He owns and
campaigns Howe Motorsports, appears on Street Outlaws and No Prep Kings, runs Big Jim’s Bonding

South Main Street, and founded the nonprofit Horsepower for Kids. https:horsepowerforkids.org
The racing starts with his father, Jim Howe Sr. From the late 1960s through the 1980s, Howe Sr. was a
known name around Detroit for fast door cars and hot rods, including the “Bad Boy” 1967 Camaro. He
owned auto shops, then Central Michigan Dragway in Stanton, Michigan, and later I-40 Dragway after
the family settled in Crossville. Jim Jr. has always said that is the foundation of his own championship
run. A tribute to the original Bad Boy still travels with the team.
Jim races and runs the operation with his wife, Amanda Howe. Amanda is an accomplished racer and a
full partner in the cars, the shop, and the businesses. Their son Jimmy Howe drives the team’s 3,500-
horsepower GTR in big-tire and Pro 275 radial competition. Younger brother Blayze is slated for junior
dragster. After the family lost their daughter Sienna in 2022, Jim founded Horsepower for Kids to keep
her name on work that puts young people in the shop, at the track, and in front of skilled-trades careers.
Jim’s own path runs from junior bikes and high-school drags through IHRA Top Dragster, small-tire
heads-up, Limited Drag Radial, and no-prep. In 2019 he won the Limited Drag Radial world
championship with five final-round appearances. His current signature car is the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro
“The Guardian,” built for no-prep and limited-tire racing and named in tribute to Sienna. That car has
been a regular on Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings. The team also campaigns other combinations,
including the family GTR, and has had a Howe car in the Door Slammers 2 racing game.
When the team is home, the office is 59 South Main Street, Suite 101, Crossville. That address is Howe
Motorsports, Big Jim’s Bonding — the licensed Tennessee bonding company Jim opened in 2016 — and
the home of Horsepower for Kids. Horsepower for Kids runs school assemblies, anti-bullying talks, pit
experiences for kids who do not usually get that seat, and trades conversations with high schools and
tech schools between race dates.
